Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is The U of I System Transfer Guarantee and am I eligible?
A: Effective Fall 2025, students transferring from any college or university in the United States are guaranteed admission into any of the University of Illinois locations through The U of I Transfer Guarantee if they meet the following requirements:
- Graduated from an Illinois high school (home-schooled students in Illinois and those students earning a GED obtained in Illinois qualify)
- Earned a minimum of 36 graded, transferable semester hours at the time of application to the university
- Attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all transferable coursework completed at any college/university within the United States at the time of application to the university
- Satisfied the university's English language proficiency requirement
No application or paperwork is needed to be considered for the U of I System Transfer Guarantee. Students who complete all requirements listed above are automatically guaranteed admission to the university. This does not extend to admission into a specific college, school, department, or academic major, which may have additional requirements and admissions processes.
To be considered, students must be pursuing their first bachelor's degree and must submit a complete transfer admissions application during the designated filing period for the university to which they are applying. Please note that application deadlines and filing periods may differ at each university.
Q: Am I guaranteed admission into my major of choice?
A: No. The U of I System Transfer Guarantee provides guaranteed admission to the university, not a specific major. Some majors at each campus have specific admissions requirements as well as limited capacity. Be sure to view the Transfer Guides for each institution, which highlight specific admissions requirements for transfer students.
Q: I took courses at multiple institutions and/or communiy colleges. Can I still transfer through The U of I System Transfer Guarantee?
