A: Students transferring from an Illinois community college are guaranteed admission into any of the University of Illinois locations through The U of I Transfer Guarantee if they meet all following requirements:
- Enrolled only at an Illinois community college after graduating from an Illinois high school
- Earned a minimum of 36 graded, transferable semester hours at the time of application to the university
- Attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 in all transferable coursework completed at the time of application to the university
- Satisfied the university's English language proficiency requirement
*Students who complete all requirements listed above are guaranteed admission to the university, not guaranteed admission to a specific college or major. Students must complete the institution’s transfer admissions application during the appropriate filing period for consideration.
Q: Am I guaranteed admission into my major of choice?
A: No. The U of I System Transfer Guarantee provides guaranteed admission to the university, not a specific major. Some majors at each campus have specific admissions requirements as well as limited capacity. Be sure to view the Transfer Guides for each institution, which highlight specific admissions requirements for transfer students.
Q: Which Illinois community colleges and 4-year institutions participate in the U of I System Transfer Guarantee?
A: All 48 community colleges in the state of Illinois participate in the U of I System Transfer Guarantee. Students who successfully complete all program requirements at one of the 48 Illinois community colleges will be guaranteed admission into any of the University of Illinois locations, including Chicago, Springfield, and Urbana-Champaign.
Q: I took courses at more than one Illinois community college. Can I still transfer through The U of I System Transfer Guarantee?
A: Yes. As long as you’ve enrolled only at Illinois community colleges after your high school graduation, you are eligible for the program. You can earn credit from more than one Illinois community college.
