About Us

What is the Salute to Illinois Scholars (SIS)?

Salute to Illinois Scholars (SIS) is an invitation-only virtual event to celebrate students’ academic achievements, and to encourage them to consider attending one of twelve public universities, located right here in Illinois. The event is hosted by the University of Illinois System (Urbana, Chicago, Springfield), together with Chicago State University, Eastern Illinois University, Governors State University, Illinois State University, Northeastern Illinois University, Northern Illinois University, the Southern Illinois University System, (Carbondale, Edwardsville), and Western Illinois University.

  • A College Fair with admissions representatives, from all twelve Illinois public universities
  • A Financial Aid Information Session (optional) from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission
  • Application Fee Waivers for future applications for admission for each university, for invited students who attend SIS
  • An Individualized Certificate of Academic Achievement to honor the state of Illinois’ most talented high school seniors and community college honor students

Attendees include high school seniors and a guest (parent or high school counselor), community college honors-eligible students and a guest, as well as university leaders and staff. Last year more than 400 students registered for this virtual event.
